NJ Coalition Statement on Gov. Phil Murphy’s 2025 State of the State Address
TRENTON, NJ [January 14, 2025] — In his State of the State Address, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy doubled down on the administration’s commitment to clean energy. We commend Gov. Murphy for his continued leadership in advancing bold and transformative clean energy goals in the final months of his term, cementing both his legacy and New Jersey’s as a clean energy leader in the U.S.
Under Gov. Murphy’s leadership, New Jersey is prioritizing jobs and affordability by advancing clean energy production. By Executive Order, New Jersey has one of the most ambitious standards in the country, aiming for 100% clean energy generation by 2035. Codifying this goal is the next step to ensuring New Jersey’s energy security. Today, Gov. Murphy called on the Legislature to advance legislation to establish a clean energy standard by law. We commend Gov. Murphy for his leadership on this issue and are committed to working with the administration and the Legislature to advance legislation to protect New Jersey’s clean energy future.
New Jersey has already proven itself to be a leader in creating opportunities for in-state, clean energy production. As we enter Gov. Murphy’s final year in office, we must not lose momentum. We stand ready to work with the Murphy Administration, the Legislature, and all stakeholders to ensure that New Jersey achieves its vision of becoming the best state in America to live, work, and raise a family — powered by clean, affordable energy.
“As you know, our Administration has already set one of the most ambitious clean energy goals in the entire country: running New Jersey on 100% clean energy by the year 2035,” Gov. Murphy said. “And to make sure our state remains on track to reach that goal, I am calling on the Legislature to work with Senator Bob Smith and Assemblymen Wayne DeAngelo and Rob Karabinchak to codify our clean energy standard into law.”
