NJ DEP: “Our Water’s Worth It Campaign”

Earlier this year, the DEP launched the “Our Water’s Worth It” campaign to highlight the importance of New Jersey’s water resources, the threats they face, and efforts to protect them. The DEP has urged communities statewide to establish stormwater utilities, providing dedicated funding for the operation, maintenance, repair, and improvement of their storm sewer systems. The initiative aims to ensure that every resident has access to safe drinking water and healthy waterways. For example, this past July Ridgewood Water received the first award for its work in water conservation and addressing PFAS contamination. The DEP will continue to recognize those making significant contributions to safeguarding water supplies, improving waterway health, and protecting public health in the months ahead.

The DEP initiative “Our Water’s Worth It” aligns with our “Clean Water is Good for Business” campaign, which includes a Water Supply Plan aimed at ensuring New Jersey maintains a reliable and safe water supply now and in the future. The plan also focuses on reducing the risks of lead in drinking water. A law passed in July 2021 requires drinking water systems to inventory service lines, notify residents of any potential lead exposure, and replace all lead service lines within 10 years. Additionally, the state monitors water supply conditions across different regions, with drought status updates provided weekly. This comprehensive approach not only safeguards public health but also strengthens the state’s water infrastructure for future generations. By addressing current challenges, from lead contamination to drought management, New Jersey is setting a standard for proactive water resource management. Through continued efforts like these, we can ensure that clean, safe water remains accessible to all, supporting both the environment and the economy for years to come. The American Sustainable Business Network’s Clean Water is Good for Business campaign advocates for sustainable water practices that benefit both the environment and the economy. By promoting clean water protections, the campaign highlights how responsible water management supports healthy communities, resilient ecosystems, and stable local businesses.
