The New Jersey Sustainable Business Registry (NJSBR) was developed in 2014 through the collaboration of a number of state organizations, including the New Jersey Small Business Development Centers and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. The registry promotes sustainability among businesses throughout the state with its wealth of free resources, and provides recognition for businesses that are already taking action towards sustainability. It is free to join and businesses only need to renew their membership every two years in order to update their progress in taking sustainable actions. More details about the requirements for membership and the process of creating an account can be found on their website.

Another key feature of the Sustainable Businesses Registry is the many free programs and resources available to any and all businesses who are interested in taking action towards becoming more sustainable. Their website conveniently lists these resources by topic so your organization can further explore its own top priority sustainability challenges. The topic areas include waste, energy, transportation, certification programs, and environmental restoration. For each topic, NJSBR provides helpful and practical tips for your business to implement and make progress in each area. The web pages also include lists of possible incentive programs to take advantage of, and reporting/certification programs that can help your business receive recognition for its sustainable actions. Another valuable free resource available on the site is no cost consulting, which allows you to receive custom advice for your business or organization’s unique sustainability challenges.

As a member, businesses are able to demonstrate their commitment to sustainability to their customers and to other businesses. Current members of the NJSBR represent a very broad set of industries from construction and manufacturing, to retail stores and restaurants. Regardless of whether your business or nonprofit is just starting its green journey, or whether it has already begun taking action, the NJSBR encourages your business to register and contribute to the growing number of New Jersey stakeholders prioritizing sustainability!
